Indian spinners have always been a threat: Ponting

By Staff

Bangalore, Oct 8 (UNI) Australian captain Ricky Ponting today said Indian spinners had always posed a threat and his team would work on a strategy to meet the challenge.

Talking to mediaperson here, he said, ''Indian spinners have always caused concern. But we have to perform well and there is no excuse, we have to concentrate on getting as many runs as possible and in this direction we have prepared strategy.'' However, he said the Aussies were in the know of the shortcomings of the Indian team and will try to take full advantage of it, especially in fielding.

''We want to score as many runs as possible and put pressure on the opposition,'' he said.

On the pitch, he said he along with deputy coach Greg Chappel, who had 'good' experience of Indian pitches, had examined and said it would produce good cricket.

Commenting on Ganguly's decision to retire after the series and Kumble saying that this would be his last Test in Bangalore, Ponting said this would not have any impact on the Australian team.

''That is individual decision and it will not have any adverse impact. More over we always look at team and not individuals,'' he said.
