When Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first on Day 2 of the first Test against New Zealand, hardly anyone would have thought that the star-studded batting lineup would be bundled out for 46 in just 31.2 overs. It's the lowest team total by India in an innings of a home Test match.
The decision to bat first in an overcast Bengaluru conditions backfired completely. Day 1 was entirely washed off due to rain, and it had rained in Bengaluru in the lead up to the Test match as well.

Unlike India, New Zealand came into the match with three pacers and each one of them made life hard for India batters in the middle. The breathtaking starts by Tim Southee and Mark Henry set the stage for New Zealand early on Thursday, October 17.
Once Rohit Sharma's stump was cleaned by Southee in the seventh over, a procession of shorts started. Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan, Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul and Ravichandran Ashwin were all dismissed for a duck.
India were six down for 34 at lunch. New Zealand did not take long in the second session to bundled out India for 46 - their third lowest total in Test cricket.
William ORourke, who was playing his first match in India, picked four wickets including that of Kohli, Rahul, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Matt Henry was also on fire and completed a five-wicket haul by picking the wickets of Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav.
