India's tour to continue, Bhajji's ban 'patently illegal': BCCI

New Delhi, Jan 8 (UNI) Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today said the Indian team will continue its tour of Australia and added that off-spinner Harbhajan Singh's conviction is totally ''unjustified and patently illegal''.

BCCI treasurer N Srinivasan said the team will fulfill its commitments to Cricket Australia (CA). ''The Working Committee of BCCI took note of all relevant circumstances and development and has decided that India's tour of Australia should continue.'' He further added that BCCI is keeping a close eye on the tour and will continue to review all other developments.

The Indian board asserted that it will provide all the support to the Indian team and match referee Mike Proctor's decision of banning Harbhajan has to be revoked.

''BCCI is of the categorical view that the matter (Harbhajan's ban) will have to be resolved and the unfair allegations against the Indian player be withdrawn,'' Srinivasan said.

He added ''The Working Committe also authorised the president to take all possible steps at his command and deploy all human and material resources available to get the player (Harbhajan) cleared of the obnoxious and baseless allegations.'' UNI TB RAR PM2230
