Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad end up at same end after mix-up but Ireland howler saves them - Watch

In a terrible mix-up between India openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad ended up at the same end while trying to steal a single in the first T20I against Ireland on Friday, August 18.

The incident happened on the third ball of the second over when a delivery from Joshua Little lobbed off Yashasvi Jaiswal's thigh-pad towards short fine leg as the two betters opted to run for a single.

However, Gaikwad stopped midway and started running back to the non-striker's end. Jaiswal continued running and soon the two batters found themselves standing at the same end.

However, instead of dislodging the stumps at the vacant striker's end, the Ireland fielder made an attempt for a direct throw at the striker's end but the ball missed the stumps and went to the fielder at mid-off. This gave Gaikwad the second chance to complete the single and another wayward throw from the wicket-keeper helped him to reach inside the crease safely.

The video of the incident has gone viral. "Big Mix up but both batters are safe!" a fan captioned the video. Yashasvi Jaiswal was later dismissed for 24 off 23.

India are chasing a 140-run target to win the first T20I at The Village in Dublin. At the time rain stopped play in the seventh over of the chase, India were ahead by two runs ahead of the DLS par score. Gaikwad (19* off 16) and Sanju Samson were in the middle.
