IPL 8: Mandeep's heroics help Bangalore beat Kolkata by 7 wickets in a thriller

Bengaluru, May 2: Royal Challengers Bangalore's winning streak against Kolkata Knight Riders continued in the ongoing season as former beat latter by 7 wickets in a rain curtailed match here on Saturday.

Coming out to chase a mammoth total of 112 in 10 overs it was youngster Mandeep Singh's heroics (45 off 18 balls) helped RCB (115) reach home with 2 balls to spare. Openers Virat Kohli (34 off 20) and Chris Gayle (20 off 9 balls) too contributed with the bat to give their side a quick start.

KKR smashes 111/4 in 10 overs Vs RCB

Andre Russel's blitzkrieg, went in vain as hosts defeated guests in the much needed match at their home ground.

RCB had beaten KKR in the previous game in this season. All eyes were on Chris Gayle, who exploded with the bat in the last game against KKR, but it was young Mandeep who rose up to the occasion and steered his side comfortably home.

Heavy rain once again delayed proceedings as IPL cricket tournament encounter between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders was reduced to 10 overs per side.

Coming out to bat Kolkata smashed 111/4 in 10 overs thanks to some sheer hitting by all rounder Andre Russell (45 off just 17 balls).

Mitchell Stark was pick of the bowlers for the Royal Challengers who conceded 17 runs in 2 overs and bagged a wicket. RCB now faces a daunting target of 112 runs in 10 overs at an asking rate of more than 11 per over.

While RCB captain Virat Kohli opted to field after winning the toss, heavens opened just before the start of the proceedings as more than two hours and 45 minutes of time was lost because of heavy downpour and subsequent drying up of outfield.

As per reduced number of overs, the Powerplay will be now be of three overs and one bowler can bowl a maximum two overs. Pumped up after a thrilling win over the smooth-sailing Chennai Super Kings, defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders are taking on the resurgent RCB.

With Thursday night's win, KKR moved up a rung to the third position on the points table with four wins, two losses and one abandoned match. RCB, on the other hand, have won four and lost three in eight games and are now placed at 3rd position in the points table.

While KKR are now placed at 4th spot in the points table.
