Punjab have been dealt a huge blow by the absence of their key opener Murali Vijay. He is injured (right wrist) and will miss the entire season. (Points Table)

As a replacement for Vijay, Punjab signed up paceman Ishant Sharma, who had gone unsold at this year's auction. His base price of Rs 2 crore was "too high" according to some and hence he was not picked. However, Punjab mentor Virender Sehwag played a part in Ishant's inclusion. At the start of the season, it is always tough for teams to pick the right XI. Punjab are likely to go in with Maxwell, Shaun Marsh, Eoin Morgan and David Miller as their 4 overseas players for Saturday's game against Pune. (Match preview)
