IPL 2017 officially begins with opening ceremony in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, April 5: The 10th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) officially got under way with an opening ceremony here in Hyderabad today (April 5).

At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, on Wednesday, IPL's opening ceremony commenced with a song from a Bollywood movie.

Former India captain and commentator Ravi Shastri got the opening ceremony started by welcoming all the fans at the stadium.

A video was played showing the exciting journey of IPL over the past 9 years. The Twenty20 tournament began in Bengaluru in 2008.

After the video, Shastri welcomed legends of the game, Virender Sehwag, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar onto the ground. They were driven around the ground and were cheered by fans.

Tonight at 8 PM IST, defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
