IPL 2023: Aakash Chopra suggests two appropriate changes from next season

The ongoing IPL 2023 is entering its final and most enthralling phase. With just eight matches to go of the tournament, we are yet to get our playoff teams.

Only Gujarat Titans have confirmed their berth in the playoffs so far, with as many as six teams in the fight for the final three spots in the final weekend of the league phase.

Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians - all are in the playoff race and play their matches this weekend. Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad are the three teams who are out of the race.

The IPL 2023 saw some changes in the rule which has brought a positive effect in the tournament. The introduction of the Impact Player rule has revolutionized the tournament with much more strategic rehashing and crucial decision-making, whereas players now are able to challenge on-field umpire's wide ball calls as well.

But there are still ways to improve and perhaps tweak the IPL rules and regulations. Former India player and current commentator Aakash Chopra has suggested the IPL to introduce two new rules which may intensify the game even more.

The popular commentator made two valid points in a tweet. Currently, all the final league matches of IPL occur at a different time, which gives undue advantage to the team who play the last match as they can then assess the situation properly and play according to that.

Chopra suggested the final leg matches be played simultaneously to eliminate this undue advantage. He also suggested the introduction of Bonus Points to teams with a huge margin of victory or when they win with multiple overs to spare.

"There are two changes that I'd propose for next season's IPL,

1. Introduction of the Bonus Points for winning a game with a huge margin. NRR is absolute but over 14 games is a tough math to understand. Bonus point is a tangible reward for playing significantly better. And also, keeps the interest alive for longer

2. Provision of starting the games in the final leg at the same time. Today, LSG has the advantage of knowing the exact math to go over CSK on NRR...because CSK plays first. Same for tomorrow depending on today's results. Thoughts welcome," Chopra tweeted.
