'Another disappointing effort with the bat': DC captain David Warner blames poor batting after PBKS defeat

Delhi Capitals captain David Warner has directly blamed the batters for their elimination in this season's IPL.

DC suffered another setback at home as they were toppled by Punjab Kings. The Capitals lost a must-win match by 31 runs, which resulted in their elimination from the tournament.

And after becoming the first team to officially get eliminated this season, captain David Warner was a grumpy person.

Chasing 168 runs, DC were 65 for no loss at the end of 6 overs. And from there, they could only make 136/8 at the end of 20 overs. A major batting collapse in the middle halted their progress and thus confirmed their exit.

And Warner says the poor batting in the middle overs cost them the match. The Australian scored 54 runs off just 27 balls to give them a flying start, but none could emulate his brilliance.

"After the way we started and then losing six for 30, you are not going to win many games. You have to play with pride, belief in yourself and play with freedom. Another disappointing effort with the bat after the start we had," Warner said in the post-match interview.

Warner also believes Punjab got a few more runs than DC would have originally wanted. A few fumbles on the field allowed the PBKS side to score a competitive total.

"They got a little bit more than what I thought. Prabhsimran batted well. A few dropped chances cost us a few runs," he added.

It has been an unsettling season for the Capitals. Since the start, they have made changes galore in the lineup and struggled to find the balance throughout the season. Upon asked if too many changes hindered their progression, Warner was quick to defend the decision.

"I think we found the right combination but we keep losing 4-5 wickets in the middle and that is something you cannot do at this level," he concluded.

Delhi Capitals will play Punjab Kings again in their next match, but this time in Mohali. They will finish their campaign with a home game against the Chennai Super Kings.
