IPL 2023: Arjun Tendulkar reveals father's role in his heroics during SRH vs MI

By MyKhel Staff

Arjun Tendulkar proved it on Monday that he has it in him to play the biggest of franchise cricket as the left-handed pacer bowled the all-important final over while defending 20 runs with pinch-hitter Abdul Sahal Samad to bowl to. Speaking after the game, he also revealed what his father Sachin Tendulkar told him before the match.

Arjun Tendulkar also took his maiden IPL wicket in the final over of the match as he dismissed Bhuvneshwar Kumar off the final ball of the match to bundle out Sunrisers Hyderabad for 178 (19.5 overs) while defending 193-run at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

"Obviously it was great getting my first IPL wicket. I just had to focus on what was in hand, the plan and executing it. Our plan was just to bowl wide and get the long boundary into play, make the batsman hit it to the longer side," said Arjun Tendulkar at the presentation ceremony after the match.

The 23-year-old rookie bowler further added that he is willing to bowl anywhere his captain wants him to. Arjun also revealed how often he speaks to Sachin Tendulkar regarding his preparations ahead of the game.

"We (Sachin Tendulkar and him) talk about cricket, we discuss tactics before the game and he tells me to back what I practice every game. I just focused on my release, bowling good lengths and lines up front. If it swings, it's a bonus, if it doesn't, so be it," said Arjun Tendulkar.

Cameron Green collected the man-of-the-match award as the MI all-rounder scored 40-ball 64 and then took a 1/29 with the ball while being a miser during death-over bowling. Among other performers on the night, Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma scored 38 and 37 runs respectively. For SRH, Mayank Agarwal scored 48 and Heinrich Klaasen scored spitfire 36.
