IPL 2023: BCCI suffers loss of Rs 20 lakh as Arshdeep Singh breaks two stumps on two deliveries

IPL 2023: In one of a kind incident, Punjab Kings (PBKS) pacer Arshdeep Singh not only defended 16 runs off the last over but also broke two stumps of two successive deliveries to rattle Mumbai Indians (MI) and silence the home crowd at the Wankhede Stadium.

Arshdeep's sensational 'wicket-breaking' last over helped Punjab snatch a 13-run win but caused an almost Rs 20 lakh loss to the BCCI. As per media reports, a set of LED stumps and Zing bails cost around $40,000, that is Rs 30 lakh.

After giving away a single and then bowling a dot ball to kick off the 20th over, Arshdeep bowled a full length delivery to clean the middle stump which broke into two. There was a break in play as umpires asked for a new stump.

However, the new stump also dealt the same treatment after Arshdeep fired another fiery full length delivery which proved too good for Nehal Wadhera. The left-arm pacer missed the hat-trick opportunity but bowled a dot and gave away another single to give just two runs in the final over.

Arshdeep also became the new owner of the Purple Cap after finishing the match with figures of 4/29 in four overs. He has 13 wickets to his name now. RCB pacer Mohammed Siraj and Gujarat Titans (GT) spinner Rashid Khan have picked 12 wickets each.

Talking about the match, hosts Mumbai won the match and opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Punjab posted 214/8 in 20 overs. Stand-in captain Sam Curran took the onus on him in the absence of regular captain Sam Curran and scored 55 runs off 29 balls.

He smashed five fours and four sixes. Harpreet Singh also chipped in with 41 off 28. Cameron Green and Piyush Chalwa picked two wickets each for Mumbai.

In reply, Mumbai lost the wicket of Ishan Kishan early but Rohit Sharma (44 off 27) forged a 76-run partnership off 50 balls with Cameron Green (67 off 43). Later, Green and Suryakumar Yadav (57 off 26) accumulated 75 runs together off 36 balls.

However, Arshdeep pegged back the momentum in Punjab's favour by getting the wicket of Suryakumar on the fourth ball of the 18th over.
