IPL 2023: Bats of David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Yash Dhull, other equipment worth lakhs stolen in transit

IPL 2023: In a shocking incident the bats of Delhi Capitals (DC) star David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Yash Dhull and Phil Salt were stolen while they were in transit from Bengaluru. A total of sixteen bats, along with pads, shoes, thigh-pads and gloves were stolen.

According to a report in The Indian Express, players found out about their missing bats and equipment once their kit arrived in their respective rooms in Delhi. Of the 16 bats, three belong to captain David Warner, two of Mitchell Marsh, three of Phil Salt, and five of youngster Yash Dhull.

The bats of the foreign players cost around a lakh rupees each. The franchise officials have lodged a complaint about mass stealing from the kit bags of their players. The franchise somehow managed its practice session on Tuesday.

The batters have requested their bat companies to send a few of them before DC's next game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday. Notably, the side has lost each of their first five matches and are reeling at the bottom of the 10-team points table.

“All of them were shocked when they heard that everyone had lost something or the other from their kit bags. This is the first time such an incident has happened and the matter was soon raised to the logistics department, police and later at the airport. The investigation is on,” a source in Delhi Capitals confirmed Indian Express.

DCP (Airport) Devesh Kumar Mahla informed The Indian Express that two men came on Tuesday evening at the IGI Airport and informed them that their kit was missing from their bags. “Our duty officer asked them to write a complaint with all the details and gave them a paper. They said that they would get all the details and will file a complaint. Appropriate legal action would be taken,” Mahla said.

Delhi Capitals hires a logistics company which ensures that team kit bags and big luggage are flown in advance to the next destination. All the players are asked to keep their kit bags outside their rooms after every game. The players receive their kit bags outside their hotel rooms at the next venue.
