The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is mulling a 'shadow ban' for players from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh for the IPL 2024 auction. Notably, the players from these two countries are set to miss the first few matches for their respective franchises.
Sri Lanka are involved in a white-ball series against New Zealand, while Bangladesh players were arriving in India late because of their ongoing home series against Ireland. Bangladesh players might also miss IPL 2023 matches in mid-May as the side travels to England to play three ODIs against Ireland.
If reports are to be believed, the BCCI is unhappy with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) for not releasing their players NOC in time to be with their respective franchises. The IPL 2023 with the first match between CSK and Gujarat Giants on March 31.
Bangladesh stars Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das, Mustafizur Rahman after the end of the Ireland series with one off Test from April 4 to 8. The trio might again be unavailable for the 3-match ODI series from May 9 to 14 in England.
A report by Daily Mirror Sri Lanka has revealed that the BCCI and the franchises are fuming over the antics of BCB and are of the belief that players should not register if they want to play in the IPL partly.
The franchises are very likely to be sceptical about Bangladesh and Sri Lanka players in future due to the same reason. Here is the list of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka who will be joining their franchises late in IPL 2023.
