With IPL 2023 taking its final few laps, the intensity is increasing and the tension is palpable. As many as 7 teams are still in the hunt for 3 playoff spots.

We are on for the final league phase weekend and the next couple of days will determine the fate of the teams. Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad are already out of the tournament, whereas Gujarat Titans have sealed the top spot and are already in the playoffs.

Gujarat Titans will play the Qualifier 1, having already secured the summit spot in the league table. But who will they face? That is the biggest question at the moment.

IPL's playoff rules are appropriate. It gives the top two teams in the league phase an extra cushion. The top two teams face each other in the Qualifier 1. The winner advances to the Final directly, whereas the loser still has a chance to revive themselves.

The loser of Qualifier 1 then plays the winner of Eliminator, the match where the 3rd-placed and 4th-placed team lock horns against each other. In this way, the best-performing teams in the league phase get an extra lifeline, which enhances the value of the 2nd spot.

This season, the elusive 2nd spot is yet to be sealed. Four teams are in quest for the elusive 2nd spot with each to play their final league games in the next two days.

Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings - all are in the race for the second spot.

CSK will be up against 9th-placed Delhi Capitals for their final IPL 2023 league match. They will be locking horns against DC on Saturday afternoon at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Chennai Super Kings need a victory against DC in their final league match to get the 2nd spot. Even a loss can keep them in second place, but in that case, LSG, MI and RCB will have to lose their matches.

CSK's NRR is just slightly better than LSG's, who are also on 15 points after playing 13 matches. Hence MS Dhoni and his boys will have to aim for a substantial lead in the NRR as well. But first and foremost, a win over DC is imperative and it will keep them in pole position.
