IPL 2023: 'Chin Up, Lad' - KKR's heartfelt post for GT bowler Yash Dayal

Kolkata Knight Riders rose from the ruins to win a miracle at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday against the defending champions Gujarat Titans.

With 29 runs to get in the final over, KKR's prodigal son Rinku Singh stood tall and smashed five consecutive sixes to upset the favourites GT, and thus got his team over the line in the best-ever finish of the IPL's illustrious history.

But Rinku Singh's gain meant it was a monumental loss for Gujarat Titans, and Yash Dayal, the man who bowled the last over. It was by no means the best day in the office for Dayal, who was taken apart by KKR batters from the start.

Dayal was hit around the ground by Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana in the earlier overs, and in the final one, his UP teammate Rinku Singh nailed the five final nails on his dismal day. Dayal conceded 31 runs in his final over and finished off with figures of 0/69 in his four overs.

The 25-year-old was seemingly distraught and his teammates were there consoling him after the match. Amid the delirium at the KKR dugout, the left-arm pacer was seen sitting alone in the GT dugout, with his head wrapped with a towel.

But Kolkata Knight Riders have not forgotten to lend a helping hand to the youngster. After the match, the official KKR social media handles wrote a heartfelt message for the bowler, which won the internet.

"Chin up, lad. Just a hard day at the office, happens to the best of players in cricket. You're a champion, Yash, and you're gonna come back strong," the message from KKR wrote.

GT all-rounder Vijay Shankar also spoke at the press conference about the ups and downs in cricket and vowed to stay beside Yash Dayal so he can have the 'best possible mental space'.

It was a glorious night for Rinku Singh at the Narendra Modi Stadium, but a miserable one for Yash Dayal. It is important to see how the GT think tank backs him after this. The pacer bowled some difficult overs for them last year and did exceedingly well. He picked up 11 wickets for them last year in 9 matches.
