Chennai Super Kings are locking horns against Gujarat Titans in the mega final of the IPL 2023 on Monday (May 29) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The match was rescheduled to Monday due to heavy rain on Sunday. CSK captain MS Dhoni is playing his 250th IPL match, and happens to be the first player to reach the milestone.

The 41-year-old has been an everpresent character in IPL since its inception in 2008. Dhoni has won 4 IPL titles with the Chennai franchise and is leading CSK to their 10th final in history.
In terms of the IPL appearance records, it is dominated by CSK players. Over the years, it has been only CSK player who have played the first of the milestone matches (eg: 50th IPL match, 100th IPL match).
Because of their overwhelmingly supreme record in IPL, the CSK team have often played the most number of matches on average per season, which in turn has automatically increased the number of matches played by the regular players.
And in the CSK team, two players are regarded as the most influential over the years. MS Dhoni, their captain supremo has been a stalwart for them with the most appearances, while the other is Suresh Raina.
Although Dhoni is the first to play the 250th match, it is Suresh Raina who actually holds the record of becoming the first player to reach 100th, 150th IPL appearances. Raina, who retired from IPL in 2021, had played 205 IPL matches in his career.
Raina's 150th IPL appearance came in 2017 during his Gujarat Lions days as CSK was banned from participating in IPL for two years (2016 and 2017).
| Appearance | Player | Team | Year |
| 50th | Suresh Raina, Subramaniam Badrinath | CSK | 2011 |
| 100th | Suresh Raina | CSK | 2014 |
| 150th | Suresh Raina | GL | 2017 |
| 200th | MS Dhoni | CSK | 2020 |
