IPL 2023: Deepak Chahar to be sidelined? Former CSK player Suresh Raina reveals

Chennai Super Kings bowler Deepak Chahar may be out for the next couple of weeks or so, and can miss the upcoming four to five games in IPL 2023, says former CSK player and commentator Suresh Raina.

Deepak Chahar had an injury in the very first over of his bowling in the match against Mumbai Indians. The bowler underwent treatment on the field and completed the over. But subsequently, he took off the field and never came back after that.

His spell was curtailed to just one over and as it seems, the injury may play a bigger role than it was originally expected. According to reports, Chahar's injury is a recurring hamstring issue, something which has troubled him in the past.

The CSK bowler has sustained a left hamstring injury, the same one which kept him out of the entire IPL 2022. The pacer had a recurring issue in the Mumbai match and it looks like the injury can keep him sidelined again.

Chahar, who is a key part of the CSK squad, will be hoping the injury is not too serious and come back to the field soon.

Chahar can miss 4 to 5 IPL Matches: Suresh Raina

Amid the injury fears, former CSK player and current commentator Suresh Raina thinks Chahar can miss a few games in the upcoming weeks or so.

"It seems Deepak will be out for 4-5 games. It looks he has again sustained hamstring injury and looked in discomfort. All the other IPL venues are far off from Chennai and there will be lot of travelling involved," Raina said on JioCinema.

CSK captain MS Dhoni led his side to their second win in a row as they overcame Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede stadium. And after the match, Dhoni also stressed the importance of Chahar in the team.

"Not to forget we lost Deepak in the first over. He's our new ball bowler and Magala playing his first match," he said after the win.

The Agra-born player is with Chennai Super Kings since the 2018 season and has been a consistent performer for them. He has 58 IPL wickets for CSK to his name till date.
