IPL 2023: Deepak Chahar reveals being booed by MS Dhoni fans - 'Feared they would abuse me'

IPL 2023: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Deepak Chahar has revealed an incident during one of the matches in the IPL 2023 when he was booed by MS Dhoni fans when he was warming up near the boundary rope.

Recalling the incident in the latest episode of the Breakfast with Champions, Chahar said he just came out with his pads on and was actually warming for his bowling in the second innings of the match when Dhoni fans thought he would walk in ahead of the CSK captain to bat.

"When you bowl second there isn't much time to warm up. Jaddu was playing in the middle when I put on pads and came out to warm up for bowling. The audience started hooting.

"I was like, 'I am not going first. Are you mad?' They were doubtful if I will be able to do it or not. Just two or three balls were remaining. I said don't worry and stood there quietly. I didn't even look around thinking they would abuse me " Chahar said.

Fans have flocked in numbers to get a glimpse of Dhoni in action in the IPL 2023. Even though the talismanic leader hasn't confirmed anything on his retirement plans and CSK future, fans and pundits have widely speculated that the IPL 2023 season is Dhoni's last as an active player.

Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja had expressed his disappointment with CSK and Dhoni fans, saying that they want him to get out soon to watch Dhoni play.

"I keep hearing Mahi bhai's chants. If I bat higher, then the crowd will wait for me to get out. As long as the team wins, I am happy," Jadeja had said.

CSK will clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final of IPL 2023 on Sunday, May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
