South Africa legend Faf du Plessis made his IPL debut back in 2012 but he had to wait for 10 years to play his maiden as captain of a franchise. Du Plessis was named the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain ahead of the IPL 2022 season.
He took over the baton from none other than Virat Kohli who failed to lead his side to IPL glory despite leading them in eight seasons. Du Plessis was bought by the RCB for Rs 7 crore in IPL 2022 auction and straightaway named the captain of the side.

His vast experience of captaining South African side across formats and T20 franchises around the globe justified RCB's decision. In his first year as the captain of an IPL team, the right-hand batter impressed by leading the Bengaluru-based franchise to the play-offs.
The 38-year-old, is the oldest captain in the IPL 2022 after his former teammate MS Dhoni. The swashbuckling cricketer would be aiming to end RCB's long wait of 15 years for an IPL trophy while also adding a glorious chapter to his career which is already in its twilight years.
