The IPL 2023 Final between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad was postponed from the originally scheduled date (Sunday, May 28) to the reserve day (Monday, May 29) after persistent rains.
The wet conditions and the rains did not allow for even the toss to take place on Sunday (May 28), but fortuantely there was a reserve day in place and there is a chance we could witness a full T20 game.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni's CSK and Hardik Pandya's GT were all set for the title showdown, but the rain gods have delayed the crowning of the champion by a day. This is the first time in the history of IPL, the final will be held on the reserve day.
The IPL 2023 final will start at 7:30 PM IST with the toss taking place at 7 PM IST. But what is the weather forecast for the reserve day (Monday, May 29)? Will rain play spoilsport again? Is there another reserve day in case the match is washed out again?
As it stands, the weather seems to be clear and sunny, accoring to AccuWeather. But that was the case even on Sunday (May 28). It started raining only in the evening before the toss. However, the forecast for Monday (May 29) looks promising.
The overall forecast for the day according to AccuWeather states "Mostly cloudy with a thunderstorm in spots this afternoon". Chance of thunderstorm is at 24% and there is only prediction for around half an hour or 30 minutes rain.
Gujarat Titans are in a huddle as CSK openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway walk out to the middle to resume the run chase. There is still a light threat of rain.
As the innings has been shortened to 15 overs, the powerplay ends at 4 overs and a bowler is allowed to bowl a maximum of 3 overs.
Once the match resumes at 12:10 AM IST, CSK will need 171 in 15 overs to clinch fifth title. CSK are already 4 for 0 in 0.3 overs. So, MS Dhoni's men will need 167 from 87 balls to win. As it's a 15 over game, a bowler can bowl only a maximum of 3 overs.
The latest from the inspection is that the match will resume at 12:10 AM and will be a 15 over chase for CSK. So, the target is 171 for CSK to clinch the fifth title.
Harsha Bhogle gives clarity on the par scores and targets for CSK if the game resumes.
Just to make it clear, if it is a 20 over game from here on, par scores are 44-0 etc at the 5 over point. Meaning if there is another stoppage after 5 overs, that will be the target. But if it becomes a 5 over game only from here on, the target will be 68, 80 if it is 6 overs,…

We will start losing overs if the game doesn't resume in the next five minutes. So, expect the overs to be reduced as there is no chance that the match will start anytime soon.
There will be another inspection at 11:30 PM IST. That means we will still have another 45 minutes before we start losing overs. So, there is chance of a shortened game. Stay tuned for further updates.
Onfield umpires Rod Tucker and Nitin Menon are out to inspect the outfield conditions. There is still a few soggy areas on the field and the groundstaff are working hard to get that as dry as possible.
The DLS par scores for CSK if the overs are lost due to the delay are: 66 in 5 overs, 123 in 10 overs and 171 in 15 overs.
Broadcasters state that the play has stopped due to wet outfield and the next inspection is at 10:45 PM IST.
The groundstaff have started their work as they remove the covers and look to get the game back underway. The live pictures show players from both teams and umpires in the middle checking on the outfield and playing area.
It has stopped raining in Ahmedabad, but there are puddles formed next to the playing area and on the field. So, play will only resume when that is cleared and no further rain arrives.
Gujarat Titans will be crowned champions if there is no further play possible in Ahmedabad. This is when there is no chance for CSK to face at least 5 overs.
We still have 2 hours before we start losing overs. But if it's down to a 5-over game then CSK's par score at the end of 5 overs will be: 43/0 or 48/1 or 55/2 or 65/3 or 77/4 or 95/5.
GT registered the highest total in an IPL final as they posted 214 for 4 in 20 overs. And just when CSK had started the chase, it started raining with MS Dhoni's men at 4/0 in 3 overs. For a result, CSK need to bat at least five overs and they need to be 43/0 at the end of five overs to win the contest.
Just when the run chase started, it has started pouring in Ahmedabad and the groundstaff bring on the covers. Play stopped for now. Need at least five overs for a result.
It seems like that was just a passing shower as it's stopped raining and the match continues without a stoppage in play.
It has started drizzling in Ahmedabad and the groundsmen are ready with the covers. But this may be just a passing shower. As it stands, 14 overs have been completed.
The players are out in the middle as Wriddhiman Saha takes strike for GT with Shubman Gill at the non-striker's end. Deepak Chahar takes the new ball. As for weather, there is no threat of rain at least for the next two hours.
CSK skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni opts to bowl first with rain in the air in Ahmedabad. Also, with the wicket being under covers for a long time, it will assist the bowlers early.
The closing ceremony starts without any interference from weather. The toss will take place once the ceremony finishes. As it stands, there is no threat of rain despite a cloud cover of 41 percent.
The live images show fans pouring in to the stadium as the weather remains dry and the rain has stayed away since last night. AccuWeather still forecasts cloudy conditions, but there is no chance of rain.

AccuWeather predicts cloudy conditions turning to intermittent clouds in the night, while Weather.com predicts a cloudy evening turning into clear conditions during the playing hours.
Still remains cloudy as per AccuWeather with 100 percent cloud cover. But there is still no sing of rain in the region. However, there are reports of thunderstorms to the west of Ahmedabad.

No, the only reserve day is today (Monday, May 29). If there is no chance of obtaining a result today, then GT will be crowned champions as they finished top of the points table at the end of the round-robin stage.
Meaning, if another day of persistent rain makes it impossible to have at least a 5-over per side game or the Super Over, then the match will be declared a No Result,
The same rules apply on the reserve day as well. The cut-off time for a full 20-over-a-side game is 9:40 pm, while a curtailed five-overs-a-side game has to start by 12:26 AM (Tuesday, May 30).
According to the rules, if both of the above are not possible, a 'Super Over' starting at the cut-off time of 12:56 AM (Tuesday, May 30) can decide the winner. But, as things stand, we will have a full match as the weather looks promising.
