IPL 2023: From Amit Mishra to Mohit Sharma - Five Indian Veterans With An Inspiring Revival

Indian Premier League is often associated with the exuberance of youth and the emergence of unearthed talents. But the IPL, over the years have been a battleground of revival as well. Many of the past gladiators have proved themselves again with new vigour in the field.

And this season, it has been more vivid. IPL 2023 has seen some amazing revival stories so far, and some big ones as well. Many of the Indian outcasts, who were roped in as squad players, are making a massive impact with their 'not so old' skills and class.

Ajinkya Rahane IPL 2023

Today we shall talk about five Indian veterans, who are making a stellar impact for their respective franchises in this IPL-

Piyush Chawla (Mumbai Indians)

Piyush Chawla has seen and won it all in the IPL. But the leg-spinner has bowled with rejuvenated purpose and looks at his best this season. Th 34-year-old has picked up 17 wickets so far this season and has been brilliant for the Paltans.

Chawla was roped in at his base price by MI, and so far they have got the full value. No one would have imagined this impact from Chawla, but he has gone on to raise the eyebrows of many with his fantastic skills. He played only 8 matches in the last three years of the IPL.

Chawla has gone up to the 4th place in the Purple Cap race and is the joint-highest wicket-taking Indian spinner in the tournament so far along with Rajasthan Royals' Yuzvendra Chahal.

Ishant Sharma (Delhi Capitals)

Ishant Sharma has also been a success story for Delhi Capitals. The veteran pacer has leapfrogged players like Mustafizur Rahman, Mukesh Kumar and has become the mainstay of DC's bowling unit of late.

He has so far played 4 matches this season, and has played a significant part in all of DC's three wins in those matches. The 34-year-old has 6 wickets to his name at a strike rate of 14, and an impressive economy of just 6.5.

The pacer will now be keen to make a comeback to the Indian squad, and IPL can be a telling pathway for that.

Mohit Sharma (Gujarat Titans)

Mohit Sharma was bowling as a net bowler for Gujarat Titans in last season's IPL. The Purple Cap winner with CSK in 2014 didn't get a team and had only played 2 IPL matches in the last four editions, none in the last two.

Titans backed him in the auction and Sharma has paid dividends. He was stellar in their victory over Lucknow Super Giants, and has demonstrated excellent depth bowling skills this season.

Mohit Sharma

The 32-year-old has 12 wickets to his name this season in 8 matches. He has bowled in an economy of 6.9, which is immensely miser comparing the game of this era. He has truly made people 'Mohit' (stunned) with his epic comeback and the Titans will be banking a lot on him for the rest of the season.

He was excellent again in the Titans' recent victory over Lucknow Super Giants, where he picked up four wickets, and racked up his best figures of this season (4/29 on four overs).

Ajinkya Rahane (Chennai Super Kings)

CSK batter Ajinkya Rahane has been the revival story so far in this IPL. Rahane has scored 245 runs in fantastic fashion for them, at a strike rate of 181.

The veteran batter has looked reincarnated and his new avatar of aggression and destruction has earned him a spot in the Indian team. He has racked up two fifties in 6 innings so far, hitting 19 fours and 12 sixes in the process.

The 34-year-old, who lost his contract with BCCI earlier, will now be representing India in the WTC Final. Rahane's class coupled with his new vigour is something we haven't seen and IPL 2023 has so far been graced with the noble with mesmerizing brilliance of batsmanship.

Shikhar Dhawan (Punjab Kings)

Shikhar Dhawan has always been a star in the IPL. But the performance this season is ranked higher for a different reason. Dhawan has 292 runs in just 7 innings this year. He has been an integral part of the Punjab Kings' batting thus far.

His season-best unbeaten 99 came in a losing cause, but that showed the immense level of his class and mental steel. The southpaw was appointed as the PBKS captain ahead of the season and he has also led them brilliantly.

PBKS are currently 6th in the table and have every chance of playoff qualification. And Dhawan's captaincy, batting have been pivotal components. The 37-year-old has lost his place in the Indian team, and will be aiming for a spot in the ODI World Cup later this year.

With India's current youth policy, it is to be seen whether Dhawan will be in the India team come October. But the veteran is leaving no stones unturned.
