IPL 2023: Five young Indian players who can star in IPL this season

1. Yash Dhull (Delhi Capitals)

1. Yash Dhull (Delhi Capitals)

Yash Dhull was roped in by Delhi Capitals last year but he didn't play a single game in 2022. Dhull, 20, is a talented player and a top-notch addition for them. The youngster won the U-19 World Cup with India in 2022 and has performed well in the domestic circuit this season.

Dhull has played 8 T20s in his career and scored 363 runs at a fantastic average of 72 and a strike rate of 131. With Rishabh Pant out injured, DC may give Dhull opportunities at some stage of the season.

The Delhi-born player is someone who has all the potential to be a future star, and this IPL season can kickstart his rise to fame.

2. Harshit Rana (Kolkata Knight Riders)

2. Harshit Rana (Kolkata Knight Riders)

Harshit Rana is another player who has played a couple of games in the IPL but has more chance of establishing himself this season.

The Delhi-born bowler is with KKR since last couple of seasons and has impressed in the domestic circuit this season. The pacer picked up 21 wickets for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy and scored some handy runs with the bat as well.

With Shivam Mavi leaving KKR, Rana will have the opportunity this season to make a mark for himself and is certain to get some games under his belt. The 21-year-old may partner veteran Umesh Yadav in the KKR pace attack and has all the potential to be a surprise package for the Knight Riders this year.

3. Vidwath Kaverappa (Punjab Kings)

3. Vidwath Kaverappa (Punjab Kings)

Karnataka pacestar Vidwath Kaverappa was roped in by Punjab Kings for his base price of INR 20 lakh in the auction.

Since his debut in March last year, Kaverappa's stock has only seen an upward rise. The pacer picked up 18 wickets in the T20 format last season and at a miserly economy of 6.4, was one of the most economical bowlers. He has backed that up with 30 wickets for Karnataka in the Ranji trophy this season and Punjab Kings will definitely be ecstatic with his form.

The 24-year-old is a man in form and can dazzle with his bowling in this edition of IPL. His ability to pick up wickets with the new ball coupled with disciplined death bowling can make him a force for the Punjab side this year.

4. Sai Sudarshan (Gujarat Titans)

4. Sai Sudarshan (Gujarat Titans)

Sai Sudarshan played a cameo role in the IPL last year for Gujarat Titans. The 21-year-old batter played five matches and showed his class even in those limited number of opportunities. He amassed 145 in those five matches, and also played a brilliant knock of 65 runs in the season.

But this year, the player is much more potent and lethal. He had a stellar season with Tamil Nadu in the domestic leagues as he managed 572 runs in the Ranji Trophy.

Sudarshan can be a mainstay in the middle order for the defending champions as he has often been for his state and TNPL sides in the past. Titans can also deploy him at his regular no. 3 position and this season can be an even bigger one for the Tamil Nadu starlet.

5. Atharva Taide (Punjab Kings)

5. Atharva Taide (Punjab Kings)

Atharva Taide is another bright prospect in Indian cricket. The 22-year-old plays for Vidarbha domestically and has made a name for himself in the past year or so.

Taide was roped in by Punjab Kings in the IPL 2022 auction last year and can become an important player for them. He is predominantly a batter but has the ability to pick up wickets with his left-arm spin.

Taide has 741 runs in T20 cricket at a decent strike rate of 120 and is a reliable batter for Vidarbha in the middle order. He also amassed his maiden Ranji hundred in January against Punjab and had a decent domestic season.

The youngster also played some breezy knocks for Vidarbha in the Mushtaq Ali Trophy and will be expected to replicate the same if he gets an opportunity in IPL. Taide's multifaceted role makes him an easy choice for the Punjab team to accommodate a place in the lineup, and the player can emerge as one of the finds of IPL if he conforms to his potential.
