Lucknow Super Giants' IPL 2023 campaign has ended after their eliminator defeat at the hands of Mumbai Indians on Wednesday (May 24).
The LSG side failed to make any further progress in the playoffs, as their last season achievement has been replicated once again. The Super Giants had a decent group stage, but they failed to lock the second place due to their fumble in some matches.
It has been a controversy-dipped season for LSG where we witnessed a couple of off-the-field incidents which took centre stage. But considering all, LSG will still be happy with the way their team played, especially after the injury of captain KL Rahul.
Gautam Gambhir, Andy Flower and co. will be hoping to reach greater heights next season and there will be new recruitments for them ahead of IPL 2024. It evidently ensures there will be a few departures as well, who may get released permanently or LSG may eye to pick them up again from the auction at a cheaper price;
Here are the possible names who may get the axe ahead of next season-
Karun Nair was brought in as a replacement for injured KL Rahul. He failed to get a single game and looks certain to be replaced ahead of next season.
The 31-year-old has played 76 IPL games so far in his career, scoring 1496 runs at an average of 23.
Romario Shepherd was another peripheral character at LSG this season. The West Indies all-rounder just played in one match and was mostly unused in the entire game. He didn't bowl and scored only 1 run with the bat.
With the likes of Marcus Stoinis, Kyle Mayers as overseas all-rounders, Shepherd looks likely to be offloaded next season.
Amit Mishra will be 41 next season. Will he have the body to tackle the wear and tear of an IPL season? This can be a huge question and LSG may integrate the veteran into a coaching role rather than a player.
I believe LSG has not utilized Amit Mishra's wicket-taking abilities in the same way that Rohit Sharma used Piyush Chawala. He only played seven matches, which surprised me because LSG failed to utilize his skills to their full potential on multiple occasions. @MishiAmit… pic.twitter.com/rcAuJupJK7

The leg-spinner did have a decent season though. He picked up 7 wickets in 7 matches and also bowled quite decently. So you never know.
Deepak Hooda did a terrific job for LSG last season, but this one has been a dismal one for him. Hooda managed only 84 runs in the entire season in 12 matches, at an average of 7.64. His off-form with the bat has been one of their Achilles heels this season.
Hooda was brought in for INR 5.75 crore in IPL 2022, and LSG may release the player and then try and snap him up again from the auction at a cheaper price.
