IPL 2023, GT vs CSK: Darshan Nalkande no-ball proves too costly as Ruturaj Gaikwad slams 60; watch video

By MyKhel Staff

Darshan Nalkande got the rare opportunity to start for Gujarat Titans in an all-important IPL 2023 Eliminator clash, GT vs CSK, at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday. The pacer dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad in the powerplay before it was adjudged no-ball by the TV umpire as the hooter went off.

It was a close no-ball call as the pacer's foot landed right at the end of the line and was fairly declared a no-ball while Gujarat Titans players celebrated Ruturaj Gaikwad's dismissal after Chennai Super Kings were asked to bat first.

The incident happened as early as the second over of the CSK innings when Darshan Nalkande bowled a sharp cutter that hit the upper portion of Gaikward's bat before being taken for a comfortable catch at mid-wicket. However, the celebration was short-lived as moments later the no-ball hooter went off.

Gaikwad made the most of the free-hit with a six straight over the mid-on. The in-form opener went on to score 60 runs while playing the aggressor in the opening-wicket stand with Devon Conway. The CSK's formidable opening duo went on to add 87 runs with Ruturaj Gaikwas slamming seven fours and a six.

Darshan Nalkande, who was playing his first match of the season after he replaced Yash Thakur in the line-up, eventually took his first wicket of IPL 2023 in Ajinkya Rahane, who he had taken at point by Shubman Gill for just 17 runs. Overall the bowler proved expensive as he gave away 44 runs in four overs while taking a scalp.

Chennai Super Kings, however, didn't have smooth sailing to a big total despite the good start as they lost quick wickets in the last 10 overs as the side eventually posted 180/6 in 20 overs. Mohit Sharma and Mohammad Shami were the picks among GT bowlers with two wickets each while Conway was the second-highest scorer with 40.
