GT vs MI: IPL 2023 final qualification scenario if Qualifier 2 is washed out

By MyKhel Staff

IPL 2023 Qualifier 2 may end up without a ball being bowled on the day as it rained heavily at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad right before the toss for the GT vs MI matach. This leaves doubt in fans' mind that if there's a reserve day if today's game is washed out, if not who will qualify for the final. MyKhel brings to you all the details.

The rain interruption already led to a delay in toss already as the entire ground was covered. While the toss was schedule was at 7 PM IST, umpires had to delay toss and scheduled a pitch inspection at 7:20 PM IST.

Despite the rain stopping on the day, it's hard to assume that no more rain interruption is possible before duckworth-lewis method comes into play. In case, the match is abondoned due to rain, the IPL playing condition states that there's no reserve day if the match is not completed.

In that case, Gujarat Titans will qualify for the final as they have more points than Mumbai Indians during the league stages. Gujarat Titans topped the earlier phase of 70 games with 20 points in 14 games while Mumbai Indians finished with 16 points in as many games and barely made it to the playoffs.

Read below the playing conditions in case of a match abandonment.

  • A playoff match can start as late as 9.40pm without the number of overs being reduced (10 minute interval, time-outs retained).
  • The number of overs in the playoff match may, if necessary, be reduced so that each side has the opportunity to bat for 5 overs.
  • The latest that a five overs per side match can start is 11.56pm (10 minute interval, no timeouts) with a scheduled finish of 12.50am.
  • In the event that it is not possible to schedule a 5 over match to complete by the end of the extra time, the teams will, if conditions permit, play a Super Over to determine the winner. This means that the pitch and ground must be ready for play so that the Super Over can start at the latest by 12.50am.
  • In the event that it is not possible to start the Super Over, the team that finished highest in the league table after the 70 matches of the regular season shall be declared the winner.
