IPL 2023: From Ben Stokes to Harry Brook - Four England players to watch out in IPL season 16

Some overseas stalwarts have graced the stage of the Indian Premier League over the years. And in the upcoming IPL in 2023, there are some fearsome overseas names across all the teams.

In the past couple of years, the prevalence of English players in the IPL has been overwhelming. There are some terrific English players who have emerged in the past few years, and the IPL franchises have raised their paddles to acquire those top names.

In the last IPL auction, the English players again dominated the scene along with Australian players, and one of the English players went on fetch the biggest deal in IPL's history. And as the tournament starts in a week, here are the top four English names to keep an eye on-

Joe Root will be a key player to keep an eye on. The English batter has never played the IPL before, and is not known for his T20 prowess.

But he was roped in by Rajasthan Royals on his base price in the auction and will be donning for the last year's finalists. Root had a fantastic ILT20 in UAE where he scored 214 runs in just 5 innings.

In T20I matches, the 32-year-old has scored 893 runs for England at a strike rate of 126. For the Royals, Root can play a pivotal part, given the quality and experience he has at the highest level. It will be interesting to see how the Rajasthan think tank backs him, and that makes Root someone to keep an eye on.

Chennai Super Kings were desperate to add a quality overseas all-rounder in the last auction, and they fulfilled that with a gigantic signing of Ben Stokes, who was acquired for a whopping INR 16.5 crore.

Stokes is not a novice in IPL, having already played for Rajasthan Royals and Rising Pune Supergiants in the past.

Stokes has played 43 IPL matches in the past, scoring 920 runs and picking up 28 wickets in the process. The England Test captain will be one of the first names in the team, alongside captain MS Dhoni. His all-around ability makes him a must in their setup and the four-time Champions can bank a lot on the England player.

Sam Curran became the most expensive player in IPL history, by getting the biggest deal in the previous auction.

The Englishman did a fantastic job for his nation in the T20 World Cup, where he led England to a title and was awarded as the player of the tournament.

Punjab Kings took notice of that and went berserk in the option table, paying INR 18.5 crore for the 24-year-old.

Curran has made an adept metamorphosis and is now regarded as a genuine all-rounder. The England player also makes a return to his former employee and will be keen to repay the faith and the gigantic sum of his deal.

Harry Brook (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

Harry Brook is one of the most soughted after players in World cricket at the moment.

Brook's has been a serial scorer for England in the Test format, where he has scored 809 runs at an average of 80.9, but the astonishing fact is that his Test strike rate is 98.8, depicting the story of Brook. Brook was roped in by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 13.25 crore, and the Yorkshire-born will definitely be their main man in the middle order.

Brook has so far been outstanding and IPL will be another test in his budding career. Sunrisers Hyderabad has struggled in their middle order for a long time in the IPL, and Brook can be the answer to their woes.
