IPL 2023: Sam Curran To Hardik Pandya, How Have High-Price-Tag All-rounders Fared So Far in Season 16

IPL 2023: All-rounders are the most useful and biggest commodities in modern day cricket in any format of the game, especially in T20 franchise leagues. The owners of the team have broken their banks to have the best of all-rounders turning up for them.

Gone are the days when being a Kapil Dev or Jacques Kallis could only increase your stature in world cricket. The increase in bank balance if you are a gun all-rounder, is also a guarantee now. A 24-year-old Sam Curran getting 18.50 crore in IPL is an example.

But has he justified his price tag? Who are other costly all-rounders in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and how have they fared? Let's find out.

Sam Curran: The costliest player in the history of the IPL, Sam Curran has played seven matches in the season so far and scored 142 runs at an average of 28.40 and a strike rate of 137.86. One fifty has come off his blade.

With the ball, the left-arm pacer has picked five wickets at an average of 44 and an economy rate of 8.85 for Punjab Kings (PBKS). He has also led Punjab thrice in absence of injured Shikhar Dhawan, winning twice.

Cameron Green: Mumbai Indians (MI) bought the Australia all-rounder for a whopping Rs 17.50 crore and he hasn't disappointed in his debut IPL season. His first seven outings have seen him score 199 runs at an average of 49.75 and a strike rate of 149.62.

With the ball, the 23-year-old has picked five wickets at a strike rate of 24 and an economy of 10.45. By far he looks to finish as one of the most impactful players of the season.

Ben Stokes: The England star was picked by four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for 16.25 crore. However, his much-awaited campaign in the yellow jersey has been marred by a toe injury.

He has featured in only two of the seven matches for CSK so far, scoring 15 runs at a strike rate of 107.14. He bowled just one over and ended up leaking 18 runs from it.

Hardik Pandya: The Gujarat Titans (GT) captain led his side to title triumph in their first-ever season last year. The team is doing well this season as well but Hardik is yet to deliver big.

The 29-year-old has scored 128 runs in six matches at an average of 21.33 and a strike rate of 117.43. With the ball, he has picked two wickets at an economy of 6.69 and strike rate of 39.

Andre Russell: The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder is having a forgettable season so far. In the eight matches he has played this season, the hard-hitting batter has scored just 108 runs at an average of 18 and a strike rate of 138.46.

With the ball, the 34-year-old has picked five wickets at an economy rate of 10.58 and a strike rate of 11.

Ravindra Jadeja: The southpaw was retained by CSK for Rs 16 crore. Ravindra Jadeja has faced only 39 deliveries in seven IPL 2023 matches. Most of it is because he has batted lower down the order. Jadeja has scored 57 runs at an average of 14.25 and a strike rate of 146.15.

However, the 34-year-old has looked impressive with the ball. He has picked 10 wickets at an economy of 7.33 and a strike rate of 14.40.
