The IPL 2023 is introducing a new phenomenon in the game. The Impact Player Rule is going to be introduced from this season onwards and it promises to provide a new edge to the tournament.
The IPL is set to start from March 31 as Gujarat Titans take on Chennai Super Kings in the opening match of the 16th season of the cricketing extravaganza. And the spectacle is only going to get spicier with the introduction of the Impact Player rule.

An Impact Player is a player who can come in as a substitution in the middle of a game and takes an active part in it. Till now, a substitute in the cricket match can only take part in fielding. But an Impact Player will be able to bat or bowl in the match.
According to the Impact Player rule, each team will name four substitutes along with their starting XI on the team sheet before the toss. One of these four substitutes can later take an active part in the match as an Impact Player. Also, teams can name their team after the toss, which is another advantageous call for the franchises.
As the teams go about the tournament, there are a possible few players in all the teams who can play their part as an Impact Player.
Teams will be able to field one player who may not be part of the original starting XI, but can come on as a substitute and play a massive part. In this way, both teams can strategize their game according to the toss result.
Also remember, only 4 overseas players can play at a time for a franchise. Hence, if the franchises want to bring on one overseas player as the Impact Player, they will have to name only three foreigners in their starting XI.
