IPL 2023: Former India player claims Sourav Ganguly should be appointed as Delhi Capitals coach

Former India captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly must take over the coaching duties of Delhi Capitals from next season, claims Irfan Pathan.

Delhi Capitals are having a torrid season in IPL 2023. The Capitals are already eliminated from the tournament, and currently sitting bottom of the IPL table with just 8 points after 12 matches.

DC have some big names in their coaching staff. Ricky Ponting is their Head Coach, whereas Ajit Agarkar and Shane Watson serve as assistant coaches. James Hopes works as Fast Bowling coach whereas Pravin Amre and Biju George also appointed as assistant coach and Fielding coach respectively.

Sourav Ganguly joined DC as Director of Cricket and has been involved in their scouting process. He also has the role in vision and development of the franchise. The former India captain has been with the team this season and is regularly seen in the dug-out for the DC matches.

But Ganguly's former India teammate Irfan Pathan believes the former can be the perfect head coach for DC. The 50-year-old was tipped by Pathan to become the head coach for DC next season.

"Sourav Ganguly's presence in the Delhi dugout is a big deal. I think if Dada is given the responsibility of coach as well, he can make a big difference in this team," Pathan said on Star Sports.

Pathan hailed Ganguly's knowledge on Indian cricket and the ability to read the psychology of young Indian players. The Indian crop of DC has struggled big time this season. Prithvi Shaw, Sarfaraz Khan, Manish Pandey all have endured an underwhelming season, and Pathan believes 'Dada' can bring the best out of them.

"Dada has knowledge of the psychology of Indian players. He knows how to run the dressing room and Delhi should definitely take advantage of that. At the time of the toss, Warner has said that his team has now started preparing for the next season and in this context, it would not be wrong to see Ganguly in a changed role," he added.

DC also had a fair share of bad luck this season. Their regular captain Rishabh Pant was ruled out for the season after he suffered an accident last year.
