Gujarat Titans overseas star Kane Williamson is ruled out of the IPL with a knee injury. The New Zealand player sustained the injury while fielding in the opening match of the season against Chennai Super Kings.
The franchise confirmed the news on Sunday and it will come as a huge blow for the defending Champions, who acquired the services of Williamson at the last auction. The Kiwi batter was released by Sunrisers Hyderabad and Titans snapped him at his base price.

"We regret to announce, Kane Williamson has been ruled out of the TATA IPL 2023, after sustaining an injury in the season opener against Chennai Super Kings. We wish our Titan a speedy recovery and hope for his early return," Titans wrote in their official statement on Sunday.
Williamson sustained his injury after an awkward landing while attempting a catch during CSK's batting. The player leapt in order to save a Ruturaj Gaikwad shot going for six, but his jump created a poor landing. Although the player managed to save the boundary, he damaged his knee in the process.
The former Sunrisers skipper received treatment at the ground for some time but eventually hobbled off the field and was substituted by B Sai Sudarshan on the field, who later went on to come on as an Impact Player for the Titans.
Williamson's injury means the Titans will be able to rope in any overseas player as his replacement. The defending champions may look into the possible options and a player can come in for the remainder of the season.
Titans won their first match against CSK and will be travelling to Delhi for their next match against the Delhi Capitals.
