IPL 2023: Kane Williamson to miss Sri Lanka ODIs, other key New Zealand players to be also released early

IPL 2023: The New Zealand Cricket (NZC) board on Monday announced that it will release seven players including Kane Williamson early for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

Star New Zealand batter Kane Williamson is set to be released early by the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) board for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 which starts from March 31. Tim Southee and Devon Conway are also set to leave for India after the conclusion of the 2-Test series against Sri Lanka on March 21.

The 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka starts from March 25 and concluded on March 31. The two sides will then lock horns in a T20I series of as many matches.

"ODI Squad regulars Kane Williamson (Gujarat Titans), Tim Southee (Kolkata Knight Riders) and Devon Conway (Chennai Super Kings) will be released early to the IPL after participating in the ongoing Dulux Test Series against Sri Lanka, as will Mitchell Santner (Chennai Super Kings) at the request of his franchise," NZC said in a release on Monday.

Defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) - the new IPL franchise of Williamson - will take on MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on the March 31 IPL 2016 opener.

Three more players in Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson and Glenn Phillips will be released after the first ODI.

"Following the first ODI at Eden Park on the 25th of March, Finn Allen (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Lockie Ferguson (Kolkata Knight Riders) and Glenn Phillips (Sunrisers Hyderabad) will leave the squad and travel to India," the NZC release added.

Tom Latham will be seen leading the squad in the absence of Williamson and Southee. Canterbury’s Chad Bowes and Auckland Ace Ben Lister are the two uncapped players in the ODI squad to face Sri Lanka.
