IPL 2023: 'I can bet my life...' KKR's Venkatesh Iyer opens up after miraculous win

Kolkata Knight Riders completed a Houdini act against Gujarat Titans on Sunday (April 9). From the brink of defeat, they snatched victory in the most astonishing of ways to get two crucial points.

Rinku Singh went 6,6,6,6,6 in the last over to complete an improbable run chase after Rashid Khan's hattrick heroics. Rinku, who has become an instant hero for KKR, was sublime with his batting and it was truly a one-in-a-million show from the southpaw.

Venkatesh Iyer also came in to bat as an Impact Player and was the star with the willow prior to Rinku. He scored 83 runs off just 40 balls to give KKR a platform and himself took apart the Gujarat Titans bowling.

The KKR player attended the press conference after the match and reveals how coach Chandrakant Pandit has moulded the KKR team into a tightly knitted unit. Pandit was appointed as the KKR coach ahead of this season. He has won many domestic plaudits but KKR is his first taste in the IPL.

And Iyer was all praise for the coach and revealed how their head coach has been creating the perfect environment for them to flourish.

"I am very happy for Chandrakant Pandit sir, he is a stalwart in the modern game," Iyer said.

"And using his tactics at the international level, I can bet my life on the fact that KKR are playing there as a unit. Everyone in the KKR team is sticking together as a family. That is something that he is constantly working on, to build a unit, to build a family and that is very satisfying to see that work," the KKR player added.

The southpaw also says how the KKR coach has instilled discipline and fitness in the regime of the KKR players, and reckons those two components are the biggest aspects of cricket.

"He believes in two things, fitness and discipline, which are very important in playing cricket. He is ethically very strong as well. every time, we go out there, we will put out a disciplined show, irrespective of the result. We are a very disciplined side on and off the field, that is the culture he has built in the team," he concluded.

KKR are currently second in the IPL table after consecutive wins in the tournament. There have been setbacks for them with the injury of Shreyas Iyer and the unavailability of Shakib Al Hasan, but KKR have looked solid so far.
