Shreyas Iyer is likely to undergo surgery for his recurring lower back issue and thus will be ruled out for around 4 to 5 months.
Shreyas Iyer was ruled out from the ongoing ODI series between India and Australia for his back injury, which has been a nuisance for the batter in recent weeks. The Indian batter was left out of the first Test in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, and then left the match midway into the 4th Test for his injuries.

The talented batter thus looks set to miss the IPL. Iyer is the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders and his unavailability will be a big blow for them. And apart from that, the Indian batter is also likely to be sidelined for the WTC Final in June, and will be in a race to return for the 50-over World Cup later this year.
India will be taking on Australia in the WTC Final in June and Iyer's unavailability won't be an welcome thing. But more immediately, the KKR team will have to find a new captain for the upcoming IPL season as it is set to start within 10 days.
"Iyer has been advised to go for surgery. He is keen to get operated by a specialist in London, but if there is a decent option in India, then the surgery could take place in here also," a source close to Shreyas Iyer said.
The Indian batter is reportedly trying ayurvedic treatment for his injured back and has already consulted with a spine expert in Mumbai.
