IPL 2023: Vijay Shankar scored 51 unbeaten runs off just 24 balls as Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by seven wickets at the Eden Gardens on Saturday. The innings from the all-rounder consisted of five sixes and two fours.
The defending champions were in need of 73 runs off the final 37 balls, however, the madness from Shankar saw the Hardik Pandya-led side chase down the target in the next 24 balls only. Gujarat chased down the 180-run target with 13 balls to spare.

The fourth wicket partnership between Shankar and David Miller (32* off 18) accounted for 87 unbeaten runs off just 39 balls. The former scored 49 off 21 in the partnership - such was the impact of the 32-year-old's innings.
In the IPL 2023, the Tamil Nadu all-rounder has batted in six innings to score 199 runs at an average of 49.75 and a strike rate of 165.83. Earlier, he smashed a 21-ball fifty against the same opposition in Ahmedabad on April 9. Shankar had scored unbeaten 63 runs off 33 runs on that occasion.
With the win, Gujarat dethroned Chennai Super Kings (CSK) from the top of the IPL 2023 points table. The side has now won six of their first eight matches - the most by any team this season.
Here are a few Twitter reactions to Shankar's blazing knock against hosts KKR. Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 81 off 39, while birthday boy Andre Russell chipped in 34 off 19. Mohammed Shami picked three wickets for Gujarat.
