IPL 2023: After Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 81 runs at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, a thrilled West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee took to Twitter to express her happiness.
KKK recovered from 89/5 in 11.3 overs to post 204/7 by the end of 20 overs. Rinku Singh (46 off 33) and Shardul Thakur (68 off 29) forged a 103-run partnership off just 47 balls for the sixth wicket before the spinners ran through the RCB batting line-up.
"Today's victory is extremely special because it is also the first match of the season in Eden Gardens Stadium! Heartiest congratulations to @KKRiders...every single player gave their best. Good luck for all upcoming matches!" the West Bengal CM tweeted following KKR's first win of the season.

Leg-spinners Varun Chakravarthy (4/15), Suyash Sharma (3/30) and off-spinner Sunil Narine (2/16) picked nine out of 10 ECB wickets. One wicket was picked by Shardul who dismissed Michael Bracewell (19 off 18).
KKR lost their first match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mohali by seven runs (DLS method) in Mohali on April 1. Thursday's win is also the first for Nitish Rana as the captain of KKR. He has stepped in the absence of team's regular captain Shreyas Iyer.
KKR will next face defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in a day match in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Gujarat defeated Kolkata by eight wickets in the previous season.
