IPL 2023: Former PBKS captain Mayank Agarwal reveals why he is excited to play under Aiden Markram at SRH

Former Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Mayank Agarwal is excited to play under Aiden Markram - his new captain at the SRH. The 32-year-old out-of-favour India opener has said that he shares "a bond" with the South Africa T20I captain ever since they played together for Punjab.

The 32-year-old has heaped praises on Markam and given him the tag of "the machine" for working really hard and thinking a lot about his game. The Karnataka star has also asserted that there is a happy and relaxed vibe around the Centurion-born cricketer.

"He is a great guy. Apart from being a fantastic cricketer, he is a great guy. So that tells you a lot about him. I call him the machine, and that’s for a reason," Mayank was quoted as saying on SRH’s YouTube channel.

"Somebody who works really hard on his game, who really thinks a lot about his game, and who is genuinely a great guy, and who has a very happy and relaxed vibe around him.

"I am really looking forward to playing under him because we had a bond when we played for Punjab. I’m really looking forward to building on that when we play now for SRH," Mayank, who was bought by SRH for Rs 8.25 crore said.

Markram will be taking over the SRH captaincy from Kane Williamson who will be seen playing under Hardik Pandya at Gujarat Titans (GT) this year. The SRH management has done a lot of chopping and changing in their squad over the years.

Notably, Markram is their third captain in three years. Williamson had taken the charge after David Warner was sacked mid-way through the IPL 2021 campaign. The veteran Australian cricketer will be leading Delhi Capitals (DC) in the absence of Rishabh Pant this season.
