IPL 2023: Narendra Modi Stadium Pitch Report, Weather Forecast, T20 & IPL Records & Stats

The Narendra Modi stadium, built in 1983 expanded in 2020 as the world's largest stadium, is situated inside the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Earlier known as Motera Stadium, the venue was renamed by the Gujarat Cricket Association after the current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, who was also the president of Gujarat Cricket Association (2009 - 2014).

Narendra Modi Stadium or Motera Stadium, which has hosted 14 Tests, 27 One Day Internationals and 6 T20Is, has also hosted 27 Indian Premier League matches so far. The venue is currently home to Gujarat Titans.

Over the years, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad has served has home to Rajasthan Royals in seasons 2010, 2014 and 2015, and now as the sole home to defending champions GT.

The venue also hosted a few matches in IPL 2021, before the rise in COVID cases forced the BCCI to stop and resume the season later in UAE. In IPL 2022, the venue played hosts to the playoffs - the eliminator and then the final.

BCCI has announced Narendra Modi Stadium as one of the venues that will host the matches of IPL 2023. The venue in Ahmedabad is scheduled to host the home matches of Gujarat Titans in the 2023 season and two of the playoff matches.

The defending champions Gujarat Titans will play their first home game of the IPL 2023 in the season curtain-raiser against four-time champions Chennai Super Kings on Friday (March 31).

Boundary Dimensions: The boundary size behind square is at an average of 58-62 meters and square boundaries are 67-74 meters, while the straighter boundaries are at an average of 70-78 meters.

The venue has a five black soil pitches and six red soil pitches. The black soil pitches offer better bounce compared to the red soil pitches, which dry soon, but in T20 that could hardly be the case. In recent matches, the batters have scored freely when batting first.

It's the Indian summer, and will be very hot during the day with max temperature rising from 39o C to 42o C in April, but is expected to get slightly cooler in the nights with temperature reducing as low as 24o C to 28o C.

In May, the temperatures may rise even further from 40o C to 42o C and reducing to a low of 25o C to 27o C. There may also be some summer rains in the start of April and middle of May.
