IPL 2023: Nicholas Pooran reveals crucial phase in LSG's victory over RCB

Bengaluru, Apr 11: Lucknow Super Giants' wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran has revealed crucial juncture of the match that helped his team's victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday (April 10).

Pooran smashed 62 off 19 balls as LSG sealed their third win of the ongoing IPL 2023 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Marcus Stoinis also contributed with a 30-ball 65 as LSG chased down a mammoth 213.

Nicholas Pooran

Pooran has given credit for his team's thrilling last-ball win against RCB to the brilliant last over bowled by pacer Mark Wood, which restricted the home team to 212.

When Faf Du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell were on the charge for RCB, Wood, who bowled the final over of the innings, gave away just 9 runs. The English quick also took the important wicket of a rampaging Maxwell and in the context of the game, that was a praiseworthy effort.

"Obviously, I thought it was a really good cricket pitch. Mark Wood bowled an excellent last over and kept us in the game. Tonight wasn't a surprise to me. We just felt like it was a good cricket pitch, small boundaries," said Pooran, while conceding that a target of around 220 would have put his side psychologically under pressure.

"I think, psychologically, chasing 220-odd would have put additional pressure on us, but 213 we felt like the momentum was on our side, It was just that we needed to get that start."

LSG, despite losing three wickets in Powerplay with just 23 runs on the board, managed to win the game by one wicket, with the West Indian middle-order batter blasting the fastest half-century in IPL 2023 off just 15 deliveries.

His 84-run partnership with Ayushi Badoni for the sixth wicket was the cornerstone of the team's morale-boosting win against Du Plessis's side.

Rinku Singh Inspiration

Pooran also referred to Kolkata Knigh Riders' hero Rinku Singh for showing nothing is impossible when the Uttar Pradesh cricketer smashed five sixes in the last over as KKR defeated Gujarat Titans by three wickets off the last ball of the match.

"I guess we gave ourselves the best chance, the batsmen capitalised on the opportunity. You saw Rinku Singh scoring 30 off the last over the other night. So, the game, it's never over, there's a lot of incredible players, incredible batsmen, anything is possible once you are there, considering that the boundaries (at the Chinnaswamy stadium) are small as well."
