IPL 2023: PBKS vs KKR match delays before 2nd innings start due to floodlight failure

By Aditya K Halder

IPL 2023 match 2 between PBKS and RCB on Saturday was delayed before the start of the second innings reportedly due to floodlights failure at Mohali's PCA IS Bindra Stadium, wrote Cricbuzz. The match was the first of the doubleheaders on the day, which saw Punjab Kings put up a target of 192 for Kolkata Knight Riders to chase following a 3:30 PM start.

The match eventually got underway following a delay of 25-26 minutes as all the floodlights came on. Despite the time loss, there was no reduction in overs. Subsequently, there was no revised target as KKR openers came out to chase the originally asked 1920-run target.

Before the start of the innings, Punjab Kings captain Shikhar Dhawan also availed his impact player option. Seam-bowling all-rounder Rishi Dhawan was included in the line-up in place of Bhanuka Rajapaksha, who scored a valuable 50-run innings earlier.

KKR also made their impact substitute as Venkatesh Iyer came to bat in the second innings after the side lost two early wickets inside the powerplay. The left-handed batter replaced spinner Varun Chakravarthy.

Earlier, Rajapaksha and skipper Dhawan consolidated on the explosive start provided by Prabhsimran Singh as the opener played a 12-ball 23 cameo (two sixes and fours each). Shikhar and Rajapaksha had a stand of an 86-run stand with the latter playing the aggressor as the hosts crossed 100 runs within the 10th over.

However, their ambitions to go past 200 were halted by spinner Chakravarthy and pacer Umesh Yadav, who bowled an economical spell of 1/26 and 1/27 respectively and put a check on run flow.
