IPL 2023 Points Table, Orange Cap & Purple Cap Standings After KKR Beat RCB: Kolkata Rise To Third

Shardul Thakur, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy star as Kolkata Knight Riders registered their first win of IPL 2023 season in match 9 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Eden Gardesn in Kolkata on Thursday (April 6).

After quick-fire fifty from Shardul powered KKR to a challenging total of 204/7 in their allotted 20 overs, the mystery spinners Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine and Suyash Sharma combined to bundle out RCB for 123 to seal a huge 81-run win.

Chakravarthy (4 for 15 in 3.4 overs), Narine (2 for 16 in 4 overs) and debutant Sharma (3 for 30 in 4 overs) bamboozled RCB batters despite Virat Kohli (21 off 18) and Faf Du Plessis (23 off 12) getting their sides off to a good start.

Earlier, put into bat, opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz (57 off 44) scored his first fifty in the IPL, but the knocks of Shardul (68 off 29) and Rinku Singh (46 off 33) was crucial as the pair added 103 runs for the sixth wicket to help KKR to 192/6.

For RCB, David Willey (2 for 16 in 4 overs) and Karn Sharma (2 for 26 in 3 overs) were the pick of the bowlers, but the rest of the attack ended with expensive figures.

With that result, Kolkata Knight Riders gained four positions as they moved from seventh to third position in the IPL points table 2023, while Royal Challengers Bangalore lost two positions to drop down from third to seventh.

In the orange cap list, Kohli and Du Plessis made some strides, but the Chennai Super Kings' Ruturaj Gaikwad continues to lead the list followed by Lucknow Super Giants' Kyle Mayers. RCB skipper Du Plessis moved to fourth, while his captain Du Plessis moved to sixth.

In the early purple cap race, KKR's mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy with a 4-wicket spell gained many places to move into the second position, while RCB's spinner Karn Sharma with his second 2-wicket innings also surged in the list.

LSG's Mark Wood, who is the only bowler to take a five-wicket haul so far this season, continues his stay on the top followed by Chakravarthy and Gujarat Titans' Rashid Khan, who takes third place.
