Shikhar Dhawan and Nathan Ellis starred as Punjab Kings made it two wins in two in IPL 2023 following a victory over Rajasthan Royals at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday (April 5).
After fifties from Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh helped PBKS set a challenging target of 198, Arshdeep Singh and Ellis combined to restrict Royals to 192/7, sealing a 5-run win in the end.

While Arshdeep (2 for 47) and Ellis (4 for 30) were among the wickets, it was the most expensive player in IPL history, Sam Curran that bowled a tight final over to seal the win for PBKS as Shimron Hetmyer (36 off 18) and Dhruv Jurel (32 not out off 15) gave the Punjab side a late-scare.
Earlier, put into bat, openers Dhawan (86 not out off 56 balls) and Prabhsimran (60 off 34 balls) shared 90 runs stand to set the platform for PBKS to score 197/4 in their allotted 20 overs.
For RR, Jason Holder (2 for 29 in 4 overs) was the pick of the bowlers, while the spin twins Ravichandran Ashwin (1 for 25 in 4 overs) and Yuzvendra Chahal (1 for 50 in 4 overs) also took a wicket each.
With that result, Punjab Kings gained three positions as they moved from fifth to second position in the IPL points table 2023, while Rajasthan Royals lost two positions to drop down from second to fourth.

In the orange cap list, Dhawan, Samson and Prabhsimran made some huge strides, but the Chennai Super Kings' Ruturaj Gaikwad continues to lead the list followed by Lucknow Super Giants' Kyle Mayers.
PBKS skipper Dhawan moved to third, while his counterpart Samson moved to fourth. Prabhsimran, meanwhile, jumped many spots to enter the top 10 for most runs in IPL 2023.

In the early purple cap race, PBKS pacer Ellis gained the most as he moved from out of the top 10 to fourth witch a four-wicket haul. PBKS' Arshdeep and RR's Chahal also continued their stay in the top 10.
LSG's Mark Wood, who is the only bowler to take a five-wicket haul so far this season, continues his stay on the top followed by Gujarat Titans' Rashid Khan, who takes second place due to better economy rate.
