Gujarat Titans pacer Mohammed Shami broke the record for most wickets inside the powerplay in a single season of Indian Premier League (IPL) by claiming 17 wickets in IPL 2023.
Shami, who has the most dot balls this season, surpassed the tally for most powerplay wickets in a single IPL season, with a two-wicket spell against Mumbai Indians in qualifier 2 of IPL 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Before Shami took his 17th powerplay wicket in a season three other players had claimed 16 wickets in a single edition of IPL. Trent Boult, Mitchell Johnson and Dhawal Kulkarni were the bowlers, who had jointly held the record.

While Shami leads the list for a single season, Bhuvneshwar Kumar leads the list for most wickets in IPL history, having claimed over 60 wickets followed by Sandeep Sharma, who has 55 wickets. Deepak Chahar and Umesh Yadav follow them with 53 wickets each.
Legendary Zaheer Khan has 52 wickets to his name in the first six overs, while Ishant Sharma and Boult have 50 wickets each followed by the lone spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who features in the list with 47 wickets.
Shami has taken 46 powerplay wickets so far in IPL. And 17 among the 46 have come in the IPL 2023. Rajasthan Royals' Boult, Chennai Super Kings' Chahar and Royal Challengers Bangalore's Mohammed Siraj follow Shami in the list with 10 wickets each. Here is a look at the top 10.
