SRH vs RR IPL 2023: Smart or foolish? R Ashwin cautions non-striker Adil Rashid not to cross line

R Ashwin appeared oversmart during SRH vs RR IPL 2023 match on Sunday at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday. The Rajasthan Royals spinner cautioned Rashid Khan for a non-striker end run out while the Sunrisers Hyderabad batter never left the crease.

The incident happened at the beginning of the 12th over of the SRH innings, when the side was struggling at 52/6 while chasing 205. Ashwin, beginning his third over of the match, apparently misjudged Rashid off his crease and halted his run-up to warn the batter.

However, the incident left the batter and the non-striker end umpire confused momentarily. The umpire soon signalled no-ball as Ashwin went back to restart the over.

Coincidentally, Rashid shot Ashwin for a six off the last ball of the over as the spinner tossed up the ball, inviting the batter to go down and hit it straight and high into the stands. Rashid departed soon after as Yuzvendra Chahal had him stumped in the 14th over.

Earlier in the game, half-centuries from Jos Buttler (54), Sanju Samson (55) and Yashashvi Jaiswal (54) took Rajasthan Royals to 203/5 in 20 overs. In response, Sunrisers Hyderabad could never build a chase and lost half of their batting order for just 48 runs inside the 10 overs.

Yuzvendra Chahal dominated the proceedings with the ball as he took 4/17 as Royals won by 72 runs as SRH struggled to 131/8 in their 20 overs. Abdul Samad scored run-a-ball 32 not out after Mayank Agarwal delivered a 27 as rest of the SRH top order cut a sorry figure.
