IPL 2023: Ashwin had massive crush on me and whole school knew it, says Rajasthan Royals star's wife Prithi

IPL 2023: Ravichandran Ashwin at 36 continues to shine in the shortest and fastest format of cricket by continuing to give his best for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2023. Currently, he is the joint fifth-highest wicket-taker in the ongoing competition and has taken the most wickets for his team.

In nine matches for RR in this season, Ashwin has picked 13 wickets at an average of 20 and an economy rate of 7.22. Soon after the IPL, the Tamil Nadu cricketer would be flying to the UK for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia.

Like every cricketer, Ashwin's family, especially his wife Prithi has also stood rock solid behind him through his highs and lows in an internal career spanning close to thirteen years now.

Recently, Prithi appeared on AJIO Match Center Live’s 'Hangout’ on JioCinema to talk about her husband and revealed that Ashwin had a huge crush on her since school days, however, they started dating only after starting off their respective professional careers.

“We went to the same middle school together. That’s how we got introduced to each other. But then, we grew up and met as adults again. I was working at an events company. He had a massive crush on me, and the whole school knew it.

"He moved schools to pursue cricket and we were in touch on and off, birthdays, neighbourhood, like that. I met him again when I was handling CSK’s account and suddenly I saw him as a six-footer. We knew each other from Grade 7," Prithi Ashwin told JioCinema.

Cut to 2023, the couple are now married for over 11 years and have two daughters who are often spotted at Stadiums cheering for their father. During the course of the chat, Prithi also revealed how Ashwin proposed to her after 10 years of being acquaintances.

“Once he took me to a cricket ground and he’s a straight shooter. He said, 'I’ve kinda liked you all my life and it hasn’t changed over 10 years. We’re adults and let’s try this’.”

Later in the conversation, Prithi played a unique game of chess with the hosts where the King (Ravi Ashwin) and the Queen (Prithi) would advance one step based on the answers she gave.

Answering one of the questions during the game, Prithi described Ashwin’s temperament as a father and a husband. This included her revealing which is more likely to start a fight.

“It’s Ashwin. We fought this morning, I don’t remember about what. I think he was calling me funny names and it suddenly stopped being funny.”

Rajasthan Royals are currently placed fourth in the IPL 2023 points table. The side will next be seen in action against defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) on Friday.
