IPL 2023: RCB's Faf Du Plessis Becomes First Captain To Be Reprimanded For Slow Over Rate This Season

Bengaluru, April 11: Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf Du Plessis on Monday (April 10) became the first captain to be reprimanded for slow over-rate during his team's loss to Lucknow Super Giants in Bengaluru.

RCB suffered a 1-wicket loss to KL Rahul's LSG in a last-over thriller at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and as the game was extended past the ideal playing time, the Bangalore-based skipper was fined.

Faf Du Plessis

The IPL released a statement, confirming Du Plessis has been fined Rs 12 Lakhs as it's a first time offence of maintaining a slow over-rate in the match on Monday (April 10) night.

"The Royal Challengers Bangalore have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match 15 against the Lucknow Super Giants at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, on Monday," the IPL statement read.

"As it was the team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, captain Faf du Plessis was fined Rs 12 lakhs."

After Virat Kohli, Du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell fifties powered RCB to a challenging total of 211, LSG's Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran smashed quickfire fifties to take their team home for the third victory of the season.

Avesh Khan breaches IPL's Code of Conduct

With some late twist, the match which was destined to finish early, was forced into the last over, which saw the last batter in LSG's line up, Avesh Khan complete the winning run and chuck down his helmet.

The LSG pacer Khan, who ran the bye off the final ball of the match to seal the win for his side, has also been reprimanded although it was not revealed for what reason, it could be for the manner in which he reacted after the match.

Avesh Khan

The IPL statement further added that LSG's Avesh has admitted to breaching IPL's code of conduct during the match, which was reported by the match officials.

"Lucknow Super Giants' Avesh Khan has been reprimanded for breaching the Code of Conduct. Mr Avesh admitted to level 1 offence 2.2 of IPL's Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction," IPL statement further read.

"For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding." Both the offences were the first for the season so far.
