IPL 2023, RR vs RCB: Harbhajan Singh praises Glenn Maxwell for putting team above individual achievements

Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh has heaped praise on Glenn Maxwell for his selfless knock in Royal Challengers Bangalore's crucial win in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

On Super Sunday (May 14), Royal Challengers Bangalore put up a scintillating show in all departments and registered a mammoth 112-run win over Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

RCB rode on fifties from Maxwell and Faf Du Plessis as well as late cameo from Anuj Rawat to set a challenging total of 171, before Wayne Parnell led the charge with the ball to bundle out RR for 59 in 10.3 overs.

Praising RCB all-rounder Maxwell for his match-winning fifty against a quality Rajasthan Royals bowling attack, former spinner Harbhajan claimed the win reflected RCB and the Australia star's character.

"This is the victory of RCB and Maxwell's character. It was a very important match and Maxwell took advantage of the freedom (he's getting at RCB) and played an excellent innings," Harbhajan said on Star Sports Cricket Live.

Harbhajan also added how Maxwell respected the bowling of Yuzvendra Chahal, but took advantage of the loose deliveries from the other end and played an innings for the team than himself.

"Maxwell respected Chahal's good bowling and hit fours and sixes off the bowlers who were bowling loose. He played according to the need of the team and for any player, nothing is more important than this," Harbhajan added.

"You must not forget that you are playing a team game, not an individual match, and you must always keep the needs of the team in mind. Maxwell did exactly that and his innings deserves to be praised."

The knock of 54 from 31 balls from Maxwell included five fours and three sixes. This was the Australia all-rounder's fifth half century of the season. He has so far amassed 384 runs in 12 innings at an average of 34.91 and an impressive strike rate of 182.85.
