IPL 2023: Former India pacer S Sreesanth has doffed his hat to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Ruturaj Gaikwad and said that the batter genuinely has the quality to become a good captain in the future. Gaikwad on Monday smashed 57 off 31 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
The 26-year-old out-of-favour India batter was in his elements from ball one, hammering all the Lucknow bowlers coming in his way. His fireworks helped CSK post 79/0 - their highest-ever powerplay score at Chepauk in Chennai. Three fours and four sixes came off the blade of the right-hander.

Mighty impressed by Gaikwad's knock, Sreesanth has lauded the maturity of the form and maturity of Gaikwad. He has backed the Maharashtra batter to score a hundred this season. Notably, Gaikwad scored 92 runs off 50 balls in the IPL 2023 openers against Gujarat Titans (GT).
"But in the case of Ruturaj, he is getting better and better, everything he is doing. The maturity he is showing, I genuinely see a good captain in him in the future because he is transforming himself as a batsman and the way he is talking to the other batsman when he is batting with them, I think it's brilliant.
"I would love to see him score more hundreds in this IPL because the form he is in, he is going very good," Sreesanth said on Star Sports.
On the back of Gaikwad's whirlwind knock CSK posted 217/7 after being asked to bat first in their first home match of the season. Later, Moeen Ali's four-wicket haul saw the hosts defend the target against KL Rahul's LSG by 12 runs.
Gaikwad with 149 runs is the current Orange Cap holder. CSK next face Mumbai Indians (MI) on Saturday, April 8 at 7:30 PM IST.
