IPL 2023: 'IPL script writers!' Twitter reacts after Sandeep Sharma no-ball drama

IPL 2023 saw another dramatic climax on Sunday as Sandeep Sharma's no-ball of the last delivery of the match allowed Sunrisers Hyderabad to win a lost game against Rajasthan Royals as Abdul Samad hit a six. Twitter was left stunned at the never-seen-before turn of events.

The incident happened during match 52 of IPL 2023 on May 7 when Sunrisers Hyderabad were handed a lifeline at the death while chasing a huge target of 215. It all came down to five runs off the last ball with pinch-hitter Abdul Samad on the strike.

Death-bowling expert Sandeep Sharma managed to choke Samad as he came with an angled yorker round the stumps. Samad could only hit it as far as Jos Buttler at long-off for an easy catch.

The home crowd erupted in celebration as did the Rajasthan Royals players, who were congratulating each other. However, the hooter signalling no-ball was set off soon as the crowd soon quiet down in disbelief. The look was apparent on Sharma's face too as he stared at the umpire looking for answers.

However, the replay soon confirmed that the medium pacer ended up bowling a big no ball at a crucial juncture. Samad kept strike for the free hit as the batter never attempted to take a run.

Sharma went for another yorker round the stump again but this time he missed the line enough for Samad to hit it straight for a six over long-on and seal the game for SRH.

Glenn Phillips was awarded the man of the match as the batter scored a crucial 7-ball 25 to bring SRH back in the game after Yuzvendra Chahal's four-wicket spell put Rajasthan Royals in charge of the game. Here are the Twitter reactions.
