IPL 2023: Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shikhar Dhawan on Wednesday joined an unwanted IPL list after getting out for a golden duck in the match against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2023 match number 64.
Dhawan, the leading run-scorer for his side, was dismissed for a golden duck by Ishant Sharma on the first ball of the second over. The dismissal did not only put PBKS under pressure of the 214-run chase but got Dhawan associated with an unwanted record.

The 37-year-old has now has the joint second most highest number of ducks by an opener in the IPL. Parthiv Patel leads the list with 11 ducks and is followed by Shikhar Dhawan who is tied with Gautam Gambhir and Ajinkya Rahane.
The three Indian stalwarts have 10 ducks each as openers to their name. Delhi Capitals captain David Warner is also on the unwanted list. Interestingly, all the players except for Parthiv have played for DC at some point of their careers.
Top five openers with the most ducks in IPL history
11 – Parthiv Patel
10 – Shikhar Dhawan
10 – Gautam Gambhir
10 – Ajinkya Rahane
9 – David Warner
Talking about the match, Delhi Capitals (DC) defended the target by 15 runs to dent Punjab Kings' (PBKS) chances of qualifying for the playoffs. Punjab (12 points from 13 matches) would now wish for RCB, Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to not finish with 14 points.
While MI already have 14 points from 13 matches at a better Net Run Rate (NRR), RCB have 12 points with two matches in hand. Like PBKS, KKR also have one league match left. The Nitish Rana-led side has 12 points from 13 matches but with a better NRR than PBKS.
Punjab Kings face Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their last league match on Friday.
