IPL 2023: Shubman Gill faces online abuse by section of RCB fans following Instagram post

Shubman Gill was subject to distasteful and hateful comments on social media by a section of fans after the Gujarat Titans opener scored an unbeaten century to end Royal Challengers Bangalore's title run in IPL 2023 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Shubman Gill, who was named the man of the match in Gujarat Titans' chase of 198 runs after Virat Kohli's 101* took RCB to an above-par total, faced abuse from some RCB fans on his Instagram posts and on Twitter as well.

Shubman Gill faced the abuse after he took to Instagram to post an image of his celebration after he hit a six for the winning run against RCB. The opener turned emotional after hitting the winning run in a dead rubber for the Gujarat Titans and celebrated it enthusiastically.

Earlier, in the game, Virat Kohli played a lone hand to take RCB to 198 with RCB middle-order failing to show up again in the crucial encounter. In response, Shubman Gill took lead of the chase and duly increased his strike rate in the slog over to help his side reach the target by the beginning of the final over.
